“The legal and political scholar, Mark D. Friedman, offers a learned yet accessible work that defends, promotes, and elucidates a liberal and pluralistic reading of the Jewish tradition. In his first foray into Jewish philosophy, Friedman touches upon multiple issues relating to Jewish law, but is especially helpful in navigating instances in which Jewish sources seem to conflict with contemporary ethical values.”

I Don’t Know of any Similar book
It’s hard to describe any philosophy book as a “page-turner,” but this one just might qualify. It is an excellent book, and I found an interesting fact, clever argument, or insightful observation on almost every page. I don’t know of any similar book. It’s a beautiful and passionate vision of faith presented as a rigorous philosophical treatise.

A Masterpiece
Mark Friedman’s, “Come Now, Let Us Reason Together,” is a masterpiece of interpreting rabbinic tradition in light of advances in moral philosophy, law and modern understanding of ethical principles. It carries forward the influence of Greek philosophy on rabbinic thought and how the rabbis in every generation debated the better course of action for every person in every situation.
It presents a Jewish way of thought and action that is in consonance with the aspiration to lead a life of piety and morality that meets the challenges of the day.

Unity and Dialogue
This book is far from divisive; it calls for unity and dialogue. It skillfully uses Orthodox sources—Midrash, Bavli, and other Jewish texts—to dismantle dogma and foster meaningful discussion reminiscent of the lively debates of old.
I highly recommend this insightful and thought-provoking book to anyone, regardless of their level of observance. It offers a fresh perspective on Judaism that encourages open-mindedness, compassion, and unity.
