Non-Literal Biblical Interpretation

In Chapter 1 of my Come Now, Let Us Reason Together I propose a theological framework for interpreting the Torah (also known as the Five Books of Moses or Pentateuch) that rejects the idea that this foundational text is a factually accurate history of the Jewish people from the dawn of creation until their impending conquest of Canaan. As argued there, a non-literal interpretation does nothing at all to diminish the Torah’s authority or majesty and, to the contrary, an application of the tools of literary analysis, such as allegory, metaphor, and symbolism, facilitates a deeper and richer appreciation of God’s moral and spiritual message. It is challenging to summarize this view in a few words, but I attempt to do so in this three minute video: https://youtu.be/vxgmFIwtHe8
